“Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly.”
Langston Hughes

Last night I had a dream about a black dress, black as night yet embedded with crystals like the stars. Its silky material wrapped around every curve of the body, engulfing me in a blissful darkness. It was destructive yet beautiful at the same time. The vision only appeared for a while, and then everything blurred out.
I woke up to the soft buzzing of my dog’s snore, and an idea clicked into my head. Homecoming was merely two weeks away, and I still haven’t gotten my dress yet. Because I have an oddly masculine build for a girl, I actually don’t suit dresses, so I have absolutely no idea what to wear. Yet that dress that I saw myself in inside the dream.. It miraculously looked incredible on me.
It was a Saturday and I finished all my homework the day before, so I had ample time to look for an outfit. Putting on a pair of ripped jeans and a plain white t-shirt, I drove to the mall to look for an outfit. As I drove along the road, a flash of black on the side of the road made me slow down the car. I looked over and saw a black dress in the display of a store, and it was the same exact dress that I envisioned in my dreams. With that, I found a place to park and went inside the store.

From the excerpt above, we can conclude that the girl somehow dreamt of her dream dress, and somehow managed to get her hands on it for prom. This excerpt is also very relatable to our daily lives. From our dreams, we are sometimes able to take inspirations for a certain task, and sometimes dreams also contain visions to warn us should a disaster occur. It could act as a message to ourselves and help us understand ourselves in a deeper light. Dreams, in the form of goals, are important because it serves as a purpose for several things in our life. Without dreams, we wouldn’t have anything to pursue in life, and it would be very dull and meaningless.
